Let’s talk about Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction
Your Temporomandibular joint, also known as your “TMJ”, is the joint that connects your lower jaw to your skull.
The main function of the Temporomandibular joint is to facilitate the movement of your lower jaw. A key part in speaking, and chewing, dysfunction in this joint can be very painful and frustrating to live with. We generally do not think about the proper function of our Temporomandibular joint until it draws attention with pain or discomfort.
There are many types of treatment and various Optimize Practitioners who can help.
One of the treatments we focus on is Intraoral Massage. Intraoral massage is a fantastic treatment for jaw pain and issues stemming from various conditions such as TMJ dysfunction, clenching/ grinding, prolonged dental work, and wearing dental appliances, just to name a few.
This technique is very gentle, with minimal pain during and after treatment. The massage therapist, wearing gloves, will insert a finger into the cheek and gently work into the muscles of the jaw joints.
Intraoral massage can benefit people who suffer from – TMJD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction)
